It’s Finally Here!!

It’s been a challenging, what feels like a long road but after 16 months, My new studio space has come to fruition.

I don’t know if I’ve talked about the adventure my family’s been on this past 16 months but to catch you up, well to catch you up we would have to go back a little further to Fall of 2023.

For as long as my husband and I can remember we have wanted to build our own home. So many times we had come close to doing it just to pretty much chicken out.

But when my mom moved in with us (2022) and I began my journey into starting Love & Lace Photography it became clear our current home was not going to work for either and aging mom or growing my business. So we jumped down the rabbit hole of looking at house plans. And let me tell ya, from a girl who’s been down that hole multiple times before it goes from being exciting to down right exhausting faster than that little white rabbit can hop away from you.

Finally we decided to draw our own house plans, nothing seemed to check all the boxes.

Buying Dirt

We already had a piece of property in mind when we began talking about building again. Lucky for us it was still available and having my mom pitching in made buying the land a lot easier. This was probably the most seamless part of the whole process. I still remember that Fall evening when we had signed the papers and the deal was done, we went and toasted with Champaign and treats on the property! Such an exciting moment.

Oh how things change…

Home Selling Stress

It’s no lie when they say selling your home is one of the most stressful times of your life! It’s so true. From fixing up your house to the constant cleaning to having to pack up 5 dogs in a car or two and go for drives multiple times a day for sometimes an hour or more is no fun at all!

In all reality it didn’t take our house too long to sell but no part of it was what I would consider fun!

Okay The House is Sold…Next?

  1. Buy a trailer to live in while we build. Yes you read that right, find a trailer for a reasonable price that will accommodate 5 people, 5 dog as and 2 guinea pigs! Let’s just say I used to think that I could be happy in a tiny home travelling around, I do NOT think that anymore!
  2. Call Hydro so that we can have some of the luxuries a home has and for building purposes too. 3 MONTHS LATER! 3 things that saved our butts- 1. A generator 2. A fifteen foot round, three foot deep little pool and Makita work batteries that charged our phones and ran some fans.
  3. Get permits. 2 Months. We moved in June 27th 2024, but we didn’t break ground until August 29 2024.
  4. Build, Build, Build and Build some more. And when I say build I mean we built this baby with our two hands. We got help from some great friends and family and those we paid to do jobs we couldn’t. But everyday it was my husband and I out there from sun up to sun down and sometimes longer.
  5. Try not to freeze to death in the trailer when we get into the minuses outside. Luckily by this time we had power so we could run heaters 24/7.
  6. Celebrate Christmas in the trailer and a little in the unfinished house.
  7. Move in! The end of January 2025, we finally move in. There’s still lots of work to be done but it’s livable.
  8. Keep up the hard work, go for getting permits closed- July 2025 Hooray!
  9. Take a little break from all that hard work, enjoy summer.
  10. September, Back to school and back to getting the house as near to 100% as possible. By this time Brian had been back to his regular job since the beginning of summer, I began doing sessions outside over the summer. Time to get my studio done!
  11. Studio Finished! Okay if I’m being completely honest it’s not 100% done, but it’s about 95% of that way. All that’s left is for a few decor things and getting some of my work up on the walls. But it will come and for now I can’t wait to get more people into this lovely place that we have created and built.

The Studio

Guys I can’t wait for you to see this space! The walls are all white, the ceilings are 10ft tall and it’s filled with all my beautiful props and gowns. I can’t wait to create the most beautiful portraits in this amazing space!

The other thing that I love about this studio is that it has its own separate entrance (and bathroom! Woot woot!) so now I can welcome pets into the studio!! So happy for this one, I love animals so much, especially dogs. I plan to run some fun pet friendly mini’s in the future. So stay tuned for that!

Seriously I’m so grateful to have this wonderful space, to have a family that fully supports my dreams as a photographer and who has shown this support every step of the way. I’m also so grateful to all my clients that have stuck by me in this transitional time! You give me so much faith in that what I’m doing is worth it! So thank you from the bottom of my heart!❤️🥰
